The position

As a Vessel Manager you will manage one or more of the vessels, working for projects all over the world. You liaise and co-ordinate all aspects of heavy lift projects with your colleagues from other departments at the office, with the Port Captains, vessels’ Captains and with others like stevedores in the harbor. You make sure that the heavy lift projects are being executed on time and within budget. With great work comes great responsibilities.

General requirements

  • Maintain close contact with our clients and ensure that the project is executed according to the required specifications as stipulated in the contract
  • Make sure that the project is on schedule, by  interdisciplinary management of vessel and  internal departments and by making clear agreements
  • Ensure that the project is completed within budget, by proper monitoring of costs and with variation orders to the contract during the project
  • Be the link between the organization and the customer
  • Liaise with the Manager Operations on the impact of changes in the seasonal schedule and/or changes in vessel movements

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Liaise with the vessel on project preparations
  • Coordinate between all parties involved to ensure the most economical, efficient and smooth possible port operation of the vessel within the terms of the contracts
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with commercial-, legal-, engineering-, financial-, purchasing-, HRM- and technical department, Stevedores, Port Captains and vessels Captains in respect of vessels operational issues
  • Supervise in appointing agents and stevedores and in operational cost involved matters
  • Maintain updated Port-information files and documentation
  • Control disbursement accounts /invoices from port agents / stevedores / clients
  • Check the ship’s cargo documentation and quantities loaded or to be loaded on board
  • Produce timesheets in case of time lost
  • Ensure adequate follow-up of problems encountered by our fleet
  • Identify and implement ideas that increase productivity and/ or cost savings within areas controlled by the Operations Department
  • Perform feasibility studies intended voyages in close co-operation with engineering department

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Shipping & Transport,Engineering or Nautical College
  • Knowledge and experience in shipping/cargo documents and charter-parties
  • Minimum of 10 years vessel and/ or offshore & shipping operations experience
  • Offshore, vessel, port terminal and shipping industry knowledge
  • Knowledge of vessel stowage principles, previous experience in supervising Heavy Lift operations or offshore installation is an asset
  • Good command of English language (verbal and written)
  • Computer knowledge and ability to work with various computer programs (i.e. MS Office)
  • Willing to travel and work outside office hours
