The organisation

Global leader in carwash technology.

The position

The Managing Director is responsible for the further growth of the activities in the Netherlands and Belgium. The ambition for the Netherlands and Belgium is solid double digit growth, in all sectors. Belgium especially is a market where the organisation wants to grow its market shares; the organisation is barely represented here which is a great opportunity.

In addition to the MD tasks, the Managing Director is also responsible for Sales. He/she looks after the development and implementation of the growth strategy, management and coaching of the sales team, active business partner of the local and international key account customers, the associated HR policy and day-to-day management of both sites. As service forms a vital part of the customer care he also needs to focus on fulfilling service KPI’s in an efficient way together with the service team. However, this also means creating new business in all sectors according to the plan approved by the German management board.

Leadership, entrepreneurship and ownership are crucial for being successful in this position.

The Managing Director reports directly to the Executive Vice President. The MD has two direct reports (Service and Finance managers) and also the sales administration is reporting to him. Since the organisation is a matrix organization, the Service manager also reports to the Corporate Service Manager and the Finance manager also reports to the Corporate Finance Manager (dotted line).

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Leadership responsibility (including P&L) for the Netherlands and Belgium subsidiary, including sales, marketing, service, logistics and supply chain, human resources and finance.
  • Develop and expand the business while improving the organisation in the Netherlands and Belgium; develop and execute a consultative sales strategy with a focus on all sales channels. Also develop a solid service and administration organisation. Secure the capabilities on the technical side with a focus on quality requirements - expand existing market channels.
  • Develop and implement a growth-oriented strategy aimed at securing increased market share from direct competitors without changing the company’s focus on adding customer value for a profitable business.
  • Establish a strategy aligned with the company’s global strategic direction and develop short term goals and initiatives in line with overall group objectives, with an eye on profitability as well as sales growth for new installations, service, and consumables.
  • Successfully grow the company by utilising all direct sales and channel partner opportunities – review and develop its product portfolio to maximize the company’s market share.
  • Regularly report on status to parent company in Germany, and work to promote a “one-company” team spirit, embracing the entrepreneurial culture.
  • Working with the local management team, lead efforts to continuously improve the company’s internal structure and procedures, as well as develop and strengthen communication and team-work within the company. Drive cultural change in a collaborative, positive atmosphere that promotes open communication.
  • Not only is this a strategic role, the managing director is also a sparring partner for the team. He/she will stimulate, challenge and coach them to be successful by also being active within the market.

Candidate profile

The managing director has a dynamic “team spirit” personality and leadership style that is innovative and entrepreneurial, with a palpable sense of urgency and drive for results via a strong market understanding.

He/she is a role model who leads by example: visibly hands on and willing to sell, establish contacts, and build relationships with an entrepreneurial attitude. He/she therefore acts as a sales coach with proven experience in training and coaching entrepreneurial sales teams to sales success. He/she is also experienced in managing services and administration.

Due to the fact that the organisation is such an international operating company, it is highly desirable that the candidate has international and intercultural work experience. This entails maintaining an appropriate level of communication while remaining independent enough to thrive without direct supervision.

The managing director is a natural leader with the ability to communicate openly, directly and clearly and to motivate an organisation to excel.

He/she is a reliable partner for key accounts, understanding their business models and needs/able to develop their business models with them.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in a (final) responsible role
  • Proven success in (managing) sales and marketing for at least 15 years, and preferably services and administration
  • International and intercultural work experience
  • Strong network in the automotive, fuel-station, car dealership or adjacent industry
  • Strong entrepreneurial
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Analytical and strategic skills
  • Higher education/University level
  • Flexible with regard to travel and accommodation in Germany and Belgium
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English
