Interim CFO

Our client is an international e-commerce scale-up backed by private equity with a buy & build strategy. Their revenue is approximately Euro 10 mln. Our client is physically headquartered in Amsterdam, where the company’s warehouse and Netherlands head-office operations are based. The rest of the team, includingmost of the senior management team, is spread across Europe, working and living mostlyremotely. The team communicates every day and works productively, notwithstanding peoplebeing in different places. This allows flexible home working possibilities for this role for some of the working week.

The position

You will be a challenging and supportive member of the Board, involved in the leadership of the business, contributing to both strategic development and day-to-day business management.??The role of the CFO will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, tax, including VAT, financial compliance, forecasting, strategic planning & commercial analysis.
 
In addition to the finance elements of your role you will also be expected to fully understand the company’s sustainability strategy, goals & objectives and your role in achieving them and be responsible for educating any direct reports on the sustainability strategy and support them with achieving their own sustainability KPI’s.
 
The CFO will provide strong financial and commercial leadership to the business, manage the financial actions and duties, such as: tracking cash flow and financial planning as well as analysing the company’s financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions. This includes responsibility for internal and external financial reporting, stewardship of a company’s assets, and ownership of cash management.

Candidate profile

The person we are looking for will be used to a fast paced digitally led D2C environment in aquickly evolving industry. They will be a team player with strong leadership qualities and skills, able to effectively manage teams working in the office as well as remotely. Someone that can think strategically whilst working tactically with their teams and getting their hands dirty in day to day.
 
They will need a cross-functional mindset and have the ability to build relationships across the whole organisation. They’ll be a super sharp analytical thinker with the propensity to share ideas and knowledge. Highly experienced in financial leadership roles with experience in a private equity backed business. A good problem solver.
 
They will have the highest levels of integrity and dependability and will be trusted to make and implement crucial recommendations to the CEO and Board.

The emphasis for the interim CFO will be:

• Relevant accounting and financial management experience including track-record of setting up financial systems and controls within companies, with the appropriate financial qualifications;
• Strong financial reporting expertise to be able to quickly upgrade financial reporting within the business, to include the generation of monthly P&L and cashflows, including 3/6 month cashflow forecasting;
• Experience in the change to a new accounting system;
• Experience of implementing rigorous financial controls across the business, including over inventory;
• E-commerce experience is preferential;
• Experience in identifying and implementing cost savings;
• PE experience (preferential, not essential);
• Turnaround experience (preferential, not essential);
• Relevant international experience, in particular, experience with cross corded VAT and transfer pricing
