The position

Our client is a leading global manufacturer of systems and components; a renowned supplier of innovative, future oriented, technical solutions to customers in various industries including automotive, oil & gas, food, energy and construction. The group employs over 60.000 employees worldwide.

For one of the business units, our client is looking to recruit a new Head of Market Segment Oil & Gas. He/she will be responsible for market management and business development in order to drive the expansion of the global oil & gas market. The Head of Market Segment Oil & Gas will generate the leads for the sales teams.

The position can be based in the Netherlands, United Kingdom or United States. Intensive travelling of at least 50% is required.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Development and drive the business in the global oil and gas market.  Observation of market developments and analysis of market trends, assess latest developments in the global oil & gas market and identify new projects in upstream as well as downstream which could develop into opportunities for the business unit.
  • Develop a network and open doors within the oil & gas industry. Develop the opportunities into concrete leads for the sales teams. Focus on the large oil & gas companies as well as EPC contractors and other suppliers to the oil & gas industry.
  • Define, develop and implement strategic market management plans. Identify possibilities precisely and define business development targets to support Sales in achievement of growth in the oil & gas industry.
  • Identification and development of key accounts. Manage customer relationships as well as drive the strategic account planning with key customers.
  • Coordination of global sales activities with Sales. Participate in regular sales planning meetings and provide detailed input on channel and end user customer business development pipelines, forecasted results, and other aspects of risk/opportunities as appropriate.

Candidate profile

Background & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in preferably a technical discipline.
  • At least 12-15 years of progressive international work experience in technical environments.
  • Experience of solution selling/ selling capital goods into oil & gas companies and related EPCs in a highly competitive and international environment. It is essential that candidates have a broad and relevant network in the oil & gas industry.
  • Project experience with project size of over €3 million.
  • Experience with modern management tools such as BSC/policy deployment.
  • Practised in both business development and relationship management.
  • Proven track record of growing business.
  • Multilingual; spoken and written fluency in English and two other modern languages.

  • Outstanding customer focus and commercial drive; has patience and perseverance.
  • Well-developed networking skills.
  • Strong influencer and excellent negotiator. Influence without power.
  • Ability and drive to deliver results also under pressure and against deadlines.
  • High degree of independency, flexibility and creative mind-set. Must be a self-starter!
  • Strong personal standards of integrity, drive, enthusiasm and energy.
  • Senior and mature character.
  • Good negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Culture sensitive and  comfortable in different cultures.
  • Self-supporting, works in a structured and organised manner.
  • Hard working with no 9-5 mentality.
  • Energetic and motivated.
  • Willingness to travel abroad at least 50% of time.
