Born and raised in The Netherlands, Catawiki started in 2008 as a platform where collectors could manage their collections online. The position

Over the last few years, Catawiki has grown rapidly by expanding into multiple categories and countries. To support the next phase of growth, we are looking for an exceptional Head of Legal & Risk who will help steer a growing, complex marketplace business to long-term sustainability.

This is a very exciting role for a seasoned Legal professional who would like to work in a fast-moving, international start-up environment to lead the Catawiki Legal & Risk team into the future. At this moment the team consists of two (senior) Legal Counsels together with four Fraud specialists. The company is succesfully operating internationally, with offices in Amsterdam, Assen, Paris, Madrid and Rome. We are looking for a Legal professional with a go-get mentality, who is excited to work in a market disruptive environment requiring creative thinking to innovative (legal) dilemmas. The Head of Legal & Risk reports to the CFO and will be the Legal sparring partner for a large number of stakeholders, including the Catawiki Management team and the Catawiki Board. You have the ability and consciousness to sell the legal department pro-actively by acting as a business partner providing legal support to your stakeholders and creating your own publicity.

Tasks & responsibilities

Your tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, evaluate and implement the overall Catawiki legal & risk strategy;
  • Manage and develop a team of (senior) legal experts and Fraud specialists;
  • Board liaison with respect to all Corporate and Board related legal matters;
  • Work together with the Catawiki Management Team to identify, prioritize and roll-out key legal & risk initiatives;
  • Liaise with Product & Tech teams to ensure these legal & risk initiatives are built into product & tech roadmaps, managing key milestones;
  • Experience in driving legal due diligence processes is a pre.

Candidate profile

  • You have a Masters' degree in (preferably Dutch) law, with an international mindset;
  • You have at least 12 years experience gained in a multinational, tech-driven environment;
  • A deep understanding of the legal challenges in an international online environment, preferably in online platforms;
  • Experience in managing a team of legal and risk experts;
  • Proven track record in Corporate law, with experience in Board/Corporate related matters;
  • Affinity with consumer law and anti-money laundering/KYC processes is a pre;
  • You are able to build strong relationships with different stakeholders, both inside and outside the company with a focus on collaboration;• Entrepreneurial, commercial thinker, strong personality, ambitious and drive for results, always focused on the future;
  • Business- and solution minded, committed with a hands-on pro-active approach and delivering results;
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
