Head of Accounting

The organisation

Our client is an international leasing company in Amsterdam.

The position

We are looking for a Head of Accounting. It is an autonomous role in which you are responsible for a team of 8 FTE.

The Accounting (your responsibility), Controlling & Financial Management department focuses on the execution of the group & entity strategy (based on objectives defined by the Group headquarters). The finance department offers value by playing a key role in (strategic) business decisions, financial, reporting & administrative business processes.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Maintain, develop and mentor a team of about 8 FTEs, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, building of an effective and efficient team dynamic & work organisation, ensuring continuity and quality of activities;
• Planning, organizing, coordinating and executing the local accounting cycle in relation with consolidation planning & controlling requirements (local & headquarters);
• Monthly production of financial statements under Dutch Gaap & IFRS Gaap for the local & group accounting department, tax return for Dutch Tax Authorities & regulatory internal reports for group regulatory requirements (COREP on quarterly basis);
• Yearly production of the company statutory accounts & annual report within agreed guidelines with external accountant.
• Assuring the continuity and quality of all activities within the department (coordinate actions of the team, build back-up culture, foster team spirit, create meritocracy where contributions by team members are valued);
• Assuring meeting administrative, regulatory & tax obligations having an impact on the financial & accounting processes;
• Taking initiatives, taking the lead in interpretation of data and business information and supporting management by providing clear management information;
• Reports hierarchically to the CFO.

Candidate profile

• Master's degree in business economics or relevant work experience. Specific proficiency in Accounting standards;
• Minimum 5/6 years' experience in finance & accounting area's;
• Relevant Experience in Consumer Credit or Financial Services preferably automotive related / Dutch tax & legal environment, Insurance product & administration;
• Great leadership and management skills;
• Understanding of headcount administration, cash management, and Capital market & financial instruments;
• Well-developed experience with MS Excel (including Power Query), Data management, and PowerPoint;
• A strong accounting & business acumen, able to advise stakeholders on all levels of the organization;
• Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills;
• A strong personality with excellent communication skills that can translate wishes and requirements into business requirements;
• Able to act with a good balance between strength and sensitivity at different organizational levels;
• Taking initiative and finding better ways of working;
• Miles knowledge preferred;
• Languages: fluent in Dutch and English.
