The position

Manage the entire process and being responsible for the accounting team. Important deliverables will be: accounting in Japanese GAAP and IFRS and management reporting towards the group. Apart from relevant accounting knowledge and the ability to translate complex events and transactions into accurate accounting. The role has a significant focus on coaching and developing the team (5-6 FTE) and liaising with other countries (mainly Germany, United Kingdom) and other departments (Operations, HR, Statutory, Management & Regulatory Reporting) on their processes and requirements for accurate, completely and timely closing. In addition the Head of Accounting is contributing to effective procedures which are properly documented and has a mindset to contribute to change, limit manual efforts and make use of automated solutions. Finance is actively shaping its future currently and the Head of Accounting is crucial in this journey and has significant opportunities to advise and contribute to the future set-up of the accounting function and related finance & reporting processes.

Tasks & responsibilities

The role includes the following:

  • Lead the accounting team on daily basis (incl. periodic team meetings)
  • Monthly, quarterly and yearly closing of JGAAP and IFRS
  • Motivate colleagues to perform tasks, their development and engage in new activities (including sufficient back-up). Responsible for the HR cycle of the team members.
  • Periodic update of process manuals
  • Maintenance of General Ledger integrity and granularity (GL accounts)
  • Appropriate set-up, maintenance of multi-GAAP Accounting Hub
  • Pro-active initiation of improvement in processes, system set-up and control
  • Analysis, execution and documentation of (complex / ad-hoc) accounting questions
  • Review of procedures performed by team members and approval thereof (in OVS/ER, email or workflow tooling)
  • Group reporting (JGAAP/US GAAP) in collaboration with UK
  • Monthly and quarterly explanation of developments in figures and report thereon in closing meetings
  • Coach colleagues in the team on their daily performance and development
  • Advise on required granularity of General Ledger and required granular data for appropriate accounting
  • Pro-actively advice finance senior management on required improvements and develops in the team and to the processes
  • Alignment with German finance colleagues to act as one team. And coordination across finance function to align on requirements of management, statutory and regulatory reporting
  • Further to connect with stakeholders of various departments, and the parent company. Amongst other this includes colleagues in front office, middle office, operations HR and finance in both branches, UK and Japan
  • Pro-actively initiate improvements initiatives to both processes, systems as controls
  • Contribute to the annual audit (IFRS/JGAAP) and half year review (JGAAP)
  • Keep up with relevant developments on accounting, process management, internal controls, data management and system supported operations (primary process and workflow management)

There will a transition period with the current Head of Accounting which allows for a proper start to understand the activities, get to know the team and step into the role.

Candidate profile

  • Master in Economics, Accounting, Finance (or similar)
  • Minimum 8 years relevant work experience, preferably with relevant post-master qualification (CPA, RA, RC)
  • Work experience in team leading role is required
  • Verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English are essential
  • Preferably experience with (multi-)GAAP environment, usage of accounting hub/ERP system and/or group consolidation
  • Knowledge of and insight into accounting requirements (mainly IFRS), data requirements, market standards of efficient and in-control processes
  • Develop meaningful relationships across the Group to be able to properly report, leverage knowledge, realize economies of scale and improvements
  • Uniform, effective and efficient processes harmonized accounting
  • Good understanding of overall strategy and goals, structures policies and culture together with a detailed knowledge of the policies, operations, systems in own area
  • Keeps knowledge and skills up-to-date by reading internal bulletins regarding divisions area and by external or internal education
  • Maintains contact with external organizations/professionals for exchange of information, developments and the sharing of best practice

The offer

Our client offers a competitive salary package:

  • The salary for this position will be based on a 38.75 hours working week
  • Gross salary based on experience and consistent with the market
  • 8% holiday allowance and 13th month payment
  • Bonus under discretion of the Management board (max. 20%)
  • 30 vacation days per year + an option to buy 15 additional days
  • Commuting allowance based on annual public transport 2nd class, most economical way, or €0,21 per km with a max of 75km one way
  • €5 net remote working compensation per day, with a maximum of €60 per month
