The organisation

Our client is a leading, international supplier for the food and feed industry. The company is represented in more than 50 countries worldwide with headquarters in Germany.

In addition there are also offices located in the US, Singapore, China and Brazil to serve customers locally. The organization is a subsidiary of a large UK Plc.

The position

The Global Director Human Resources reports directly into the CEO and is a member of the Management Team. He/she is a strategic business partner within the Global Management Team. Supporting the creation of vision, direction and leadership within the company; effectively translating the business strategy into an HR strategy and plans.

The ideal candidate is a broad HR professional, with a strong international business partnering background and proven business acumen. He/she is able to see the big picture and work at the strategic level whilst also being willing to roll up his / her sleeves to get the job done. 

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Strategic business partner within the Senior Leadership Team. Acts as both a business leader as well as a global HR functional leader. 
  • Develops and implements an HR vision, direction and leadership within the company. Effectively translating the business strategy into HR strategy and plans that support the broader business goals and objectives. 
  • Partners with management to apply appropriate change management practices to the initiation, design and management of organizational change programs. Key elements are support with vision and business case for change, impact analysis, organizational integration and embedding and transitioning to new ways of working.
  • Partners with (business) leadership to ensure the right structures and resources are in the right place with the right skills and competencies to achieve the current and desired growth and profitability goals. 
  • Provides leadership and direction in the following areas: 
    • Talent Acquisition and Management (including recruitment and retention): provide the systems and support to ensure the business is able to attract, develop and retain the talent needed to succeed at all levels;
    • Organizational Development (Learning & Development, resource planning and talent management);
    • Performance Management (goal alignment, productivity improvement and high grading);
    • Reward and Recognition (Pay programs);
  • Leverages expertise and functional depth to ensure HR structure, processes and procedures are able to deliver the required HR basics on time and best in class; as well as in line with the organisation and National legislative requirements
  • Coaches and supports the Senior Leadership Team members and middle-management in their senior leadership roles with the goal to increase effectiveness and effectivity as leaders.
  • As active member of the Senior Leadership team co-drives the Health, Safety and Environment agenda and models the safe working practice. Shares responsibility for the rectification of any related problems; also takes ownership of relevant incidents and crises according to the Crisis Procedures pertaining to the organisation.

Candidate profile

  • Qualified to degree level, coupled with at least 3-4 relevant roles/ assignments and a track record as a (generalist) HR professional in complex commercial environments;
  • Commercially astute, business-minded HR leader that is well-rounded, energetic and robust;
  • Experience in companies with varying levels of sophistication and stages of development;
  • Experience working in multi-site environments is a clear preference;
  • Credible with gravitas and personal impact, as well as in possession of strong interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Highly learning agile, self-motivated, self-starting and ambitious. An independent thinker with strong judgement, a resilient character and demonstrable logic and reasoning aptitude;
  • Results-driven, ambitious, enthusiastic and effective. 
  • Calm, composed and well-organised. Manages stress effectively.
  • Strong international work experience;
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of an organisation, both internally and externally. 
  • Pro-active and results-oriented, as well as progressive and pragmatic. Delivery through influencing of others;
  • Affinity with complex and ever changing business environments; able to manage ambiguity and conflicting challenges;
  • Demonstrates integrity, honesty, authenticity, openness and transparency. Takes personal ownership;
  • Strong team player with a pragmatic and hands on approach to work. Strong work ethic, flexible to go the extra mile if needed;
  • Excellent command of the English language, German is a clear advantage;
  • Adherence to the company’s Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and practices.
