The organisation

Adven Värmevärden Group is the leading provider of energy and water services across the Nordic and Baltic countries. For industries, Adven produces industrial steam, heat and cold, as well as provides utility and processing solutions to improve energy, water and material efficiency. For real estate segment, Adven produces heating and cooling based on district heating or property-specific solutions applying for instance bio- and geo-energy. The business model is based on full service and long-term partnerships. After a change of ownership of Adven, an integration of Adven with Värmevärden began in November 2020.

Both Adven and Värmevärden have a strong track record of providing heating and cooling for municipalities, households, businesses, and complex energy solutions and services for industries and real estates. The business of the Group is now divided into three business segments: Industrial Energy Solutions, District Heating, and the Baltics.

Industrial Energy Solutions business segment provides industrial steam, heat, and cooling as well as utility and processing solutions to improve energy, water and material efficiency at industrial sites. Also, other standalone solutions, such as geothermal solutions for large real estate customers is within this segment. Extending the proven track record of customers benefitting from the value add that our service model delivers, is the priority within Industrial Energy Solutions.

The position

The main goal of Director Projects EPC, the Netherlands is to build up Adven’s capability to plan and execute industrial projects in the Netherlands in the Industrial Energy Solutions business segment. The person will be a key player and able to make a difference in building an organisation and delivery capability of Adven in the Netherlands. Through Adven’s ‘Energy as a Service’ model, the person will be able to have a positive impact on accelerating the realization of the sustainability goals of the Dutch industry.

Reporting line and other key stakeholders:

  • Reporting to Director of Concepts, Mr. Terho Saaristo;
  • External stakeholders:
    • Existing and potential industrial customer representatives and stakeholders;
    • Industry, construction, and supplier partners;
    • Local authorities;
  • Internal stakeholders:
    • Adven New Sales, Projects and O&M teams: Tight co-operation ensuring information flow to both directions.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Value of signed service contracts in the Netherlands (EBITDA);
  • Projects meeting the targets in safety, quality, time, and expenditure;
  • O&M services in the Netherlands meeting and exceeding the agreed service levels;
  • Customer feedback.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Ensuring Adven industrial projects in the Netherlands are ready for execution phase with fixed scope, CAPEX, and execution schedule;
  • Defining the required project organisation and resources with competent people through local network and Adven’s own resources;
  • Supporting the sales manager in local sales cases as a technical and project expert and convincing customers of Adven’s capability of planning and executing projects integral to existing and potential clients’ production;
  • Pre-engineering client cases with available local resources and support from Adven Värmevärden Group;
  • Identifying and attracting capable local constructors and technology suppliers for execution phase of projects;
  • Ensuring the availability of local capable constructors for site works (civil works, buildings, and technology connections);
  • Ensuring that Adven can execute projects in the Netherlands with high level of safety and quality;
  • Coordinating the organization of O&M resources for the executed plants in the Netherlands with support from Adven O&M function in the Nordics;
  • Ensuring Adven can meet the agreed service level through competent O&M resources locally;
  • Building and maintaining a high quality network of pre-engineering and detailed engineering professionals as well as other industry relevant professionals;
  • Co-operation with stakeholders during concept and pre-engineering phase, e.g. permit study for supporting project executions;
  • Staying up to date of EU funds and local investment environmental and/or energy subsidies.

Candidate profile

Ideally, the person meets most of the below mentioned requirements:

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in Project Management and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction);
  • In-depth understanding of different phases and required resources for industrial investment projects (~€2-30mln investments);
  • Understanding of engineering prior and during project execution;
  • A good understanding of operation and maintenance of industrial plants;
  • Strong technical and executing skills;
  • A good understanding of authority requirements and permits, and the local adaptation of them in the Netherlands, as well as a basic knowledge of the EU and local investment subsidies;
  • Excellent negotiation and technical consulting skills;
  • Strong communication and social skills;
  • Ability to oversee and manage large projects; previous people and project management experience;
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills;
  • Existing business network and contacts in the engineering, procurement, and construction sector, willingness to expand and strengthen the network;
  • BSc or MSc in engineering, e.g. chemical (and process) engineering, energy technology, or mechanical engineering;
  • Fluency in Dutch and English.
