Fairphone is a social enterprise driving change in the electronics industry from the inside out. Their business model is based on social values and securing continuity and centers around producing and marketing smartphones in a way that puts social and environmental values first.

Fairphone has 50+ employees from 25 countries speaking 17 different languages and is Amsterdam-based on the river IJ.

The position

• Develop a product strategy and technology roadmap; You will ensure that all the products are compliant with necessary certifications and quality standards;
• You will setup solid quality assurance processes to support a great customer product experience throughout the product life cycle;
• Together with your remote team in Asia you will drive and control the ODM development activities (quality, timelines, budget), support manufacturing activities and engage with our suppliers to monitor the stability of the production output.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced CTO to bring Fairphone to a next level of product performance and professionalism. He/she has strong leadership skills and is experienced with product design and development in the electronics industry. Board member experience is a must and managers without experience with manufacturing mobile phones do not have to respond.

• You have a MSc degree in Electrical/Computer engineering;
• Preferably, you speak English and Dutch.
• You have 7+ years of proven hands on experience in leading teams in system design/architecture from concept to a new product in the mobile world and you add significant technical expertise to these teams;
• You have experience in working with ODM’s in Asia and are familiair with tier 1 vendors;
• You have demonstrated that you are able to translate company value propositions and market requirements into technical product roadmaps and can assess and interpret competitor environments;
• It is an advantage if you have experience in defining SW requirements and accompanying design teams as well as experience in embedded software;
• You have a strong sense of initiative, like to collaborate and have a positive attitude.
• Lead the product design and development. You will identify key component suppliers, industry partners and support sourcing and vendor management;
• You will manage an inhouse Software and Product team and you will work remotely with the Fairphone team and consultants in Asia, who monitor the development and manufacturing activities on the ground with the ODM’s closely.
