Our client remains a family owned business with her founding principles, which means her clients enjoy a very close and customised relationship, wherever they are based and whatever their size.

The position

On behalf of our client we are seeking a Commercial Director, a Benelux position, in which you will lead, plan, develop and implement commercial strategies based on achieving the goals and objectives of the organisation within the Benelux. A newly created position in which you will lead the sales and marketing for the region in support and accelerate growth objectives.

The role is positioned in the management team, reporting to the Northern Regional Director. In this role you will be held accountable for the P&L of the Benelux and next to developing the channel and product strategy, it is critical that you will develop business plans for commercial and product opportunities - ranging from pricing strategies, manage product planning processes, marketing and brand strategy for the Benelux brands and products, implementation of new customer acquisition strategies and account-based marketing to unlock new opportunities. This role is based in the Netherlands, involved frequent travelling and you will directly report to the Northern Regional Director.

Stakeholders

The Commercial Director will report to the Regional Director of Northern Europe and will work closely with other European Regional and Commercial Directors to support the development and growth of the business in the region. Part of the management team, the Commercial Director will interact with Benelux functional teams (manufacturing, finance, operations, HR and IT) - The Marketing Director and Business Unit Leads. In this role you will have 6 direct reports and manage a team of 25 professionals.

Key activities and responsibilities

  • Market research and analysis to develop business plans for commercial and product opportunities and identify potential threats
  • Pricing strategy for products and tenders and manage the product planning process
  • Recommendations and decision-making based on trends for the future
  • In this role you are accountable for customer experience and retention strategy
  • Ensuring the gathering of consumer, customer, market and competitor data
  • Providing detailed analysis of that data that enables strategic and tactical decision-making
  • Providing detailed analysis that supports pricing decisions on products, in conjunction with Finance and Manufacturing
  • Determining the sales growth volumes and revenue by customer, product and by channel, and work with the teams to deliver and manage
  • Joint business planning with key accounts to optimise sales and profitability
  • Define and promote commercial best practice

Candidate profile

Your characteristics

  • To be successful in this role, you need a minimum of 15 years of commercial experience in a consumer / B2B business environment
  • Experience within retail & OOH is a must
  • A proven track record of client relationship management
  • Excellent communication and (stakeholder) management skills, ability to deliver impactful messages at all levels of the organisation
  • Knowledge and experience of Product Planning and taking new products to market
  • The ability to prove out of the box and entrepreneurial thinking / mind-set
  • Proven leadership experience within a multi-cultural and result orientated environment
  • Ability to work under pressure, with proven experience working on the growth of a business portfolio in a business and results driven environment
