The organisation
Our client is a Belgian start-up headquartered in Ghent specialized in the development and manufacturing of state-of-the-art chemical-free disinfection solutions for the Medical Devices industry. Our client believes in the strength of a collaborative and open-minded team, motivated in shaping the future of sustainable disinfections.
They are currently on the lookout for a Chief Technology Officer.
The position
As CTO, you will be the cornerstone of the company’s technology strategy and will collaborate directly with the CEO.
You will lead all technical aspects of the company, from engineering and infrastructure to R&D strategy and innovation scouting.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Define and lead the technical vision of the company across embedded systems, software platforms, and data architecture.
- Oversee development and integration of both hardware and software systems in compliance with ISO 13485, IEC 62304, MDR, and FDA requirements.
- Build and manage the internal engineering team and collaborate with external technical partners and suppliers.
- Drive the product development lifecycle from prototype through validation, manufacturing, and post-market support.
- Ensure adherence to system reliability standards.
- Develop robust documentation and traceability systems for design history files (DHF), technical files, and risk management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to align technology with clinical and regulatory goals.
- You will be part of the management team
Candidate profile
- Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in hardware technology development for highly regulated environments — ideally medical devices.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Embedded systems and hardware-software integration
- Software lifecycle development under IEC 62304
- System design & cybersecurity
- Design Control & Risk Management per ISO 14971
- Experience with agile product development in a scale-up or startup is a strong plus.
- Experience building or scaling a technical team in a highly regulated domain.
