The position

  • Establish a compliance strategy that supports the company strategy, including a compliance vision and mission;
  • Ensure compliance-related rules, laws and regulations are properly translated into compliance obligations;
  • Be a countervailing power within the business and for the Board;
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of the firm's AML, CTF, and sanctions policies and procedures;
  • Engage with the Dutch Central Bank, and other government bodies and agencies on regulatory and licensing matters
  • Monitor compliance risks to the firm and inform management of such risks and if there are any potential violations;
  • Oversee the implementation of the compliance programme;
  • Create and implement a change (optimization) plan to further enhance the compliance function when needed;
  • Verify that the compliance function is operating properly and that policies and procedures are in place and accessible;
  • Review compliance policies and procedures for preventing violations of laws and regulations and deviations of policies and procedures;
  • Ensure that adequate escalation processes and lines exist;
  • Keep track of conflicts of interest, gifts, hospitality and entertainment, and incidents;
  • Support the embedding of an effective compliance culture, facilitate knowledge sharing, and promote continuous improvement;
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to regulatory risk management;
  • Support senior managers in the escalation of any critical issues or material incidents that have the potential to expose the organization to unnecessary regulatory risk;
  • Be responsible for customer due diligence and monitoring, including the ongoing monitoring of the firm's business relationships;
  • Oversee customer and transaction monitoring and enforcement pertaining to compliance-related misconduct;
  • Assess the money laundering risks relevant to the firm and the application of enhanced measures where there are higher-risk situations;
  • Ensure all records and documentation relating to assessments as to money laundering risks are retained and maintained.
  • Ensure appropriate training and education regarding compliance and the risks of money laundering is made available to the team members;
  • Ensure appropriate training and education is made available to the Board;
  • Ensure that procedures exist and are followed when responding to reports of ethics and compliance violations;
  • Prepare regular reports to the Board on the progress of the compliance plan.

Candidate profile

  • Educated to degree level.
  • 7+ years of experience in a compliance-focused role with regulatory experience in a bank, an authorised payment institution, an electronic money institution, or other Fintech/ Paytech.
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong risk management skills to ensure adherence to regulatory expectations.
  • Ability to embed compliance and internal control arrangements in an organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement in proposing and implementing appropriate quality enhancements.
  • Strong communication skills, oral, written, and presentational, with experience in writing papers for senior audiences, including boards and executive groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with a diverse group of people at all levels, and self-confidence to be able to influence and challenge at all levels.
  • Smart business acumen and the ability to handle pressure.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of independence across internal directorates and departments.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English.
