Department/ BU Description:
With the Global Supply Chain Center (GSCC), Biomet is establishing a centralized supply chain operation. The GSCC is involved in all supply chain activities in EMEA. The Global Supply Chain Center is based in Hazeldonk, where it operates the Global Sales & Distribution Process.
Job Summary:
The VP European Operations manages all functional aspects within the organization's Supply Chain including, but not limited to Purchasing, NPI Mfg Engineering, GSCC, Inventory Management, Manufacturing and Central Distribution. Member of the EU Leadership Team as well as a member of WW Operations Leadership Team. Develops long term strategic plans, cascading these throughout the organization. Executes tactics in support of these strategies resulting in improved business processes. This position has 4-7 direct reports: EU Operations Directors (Switzerland, UK, Germany, France), Distribution Director, GSCC Operations, Import/Export Director.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Working with the leadership team of the SBU and Operations, establishes strategic direction and tactics to deliver superior results;
- Building and developing the talent with the organization supporting a high performance culture of accountability and achievement;
- Management oversight of key metrics including: Safety, quality, GP, service levels (fill rate and backorders), inventory (gross and net), savings targets (lean/continuous improvement, low cost sourcing, strategic sourcing), productivity, CAPAs, field actions;
- Establishes strong linkages and partnerships with all other functional areas allowing for clear understanding in order to drive continuous improvement through-out the organization;
- Responsible for conducting appropriate levels of analytics in each area — examining for performance aligned with business goals/objectives and advising of any associated risks to achieve same. Makes recommendations where corrective actions are required;
- Ensures compliance to established HR, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance policies/procedures;
- Works closely with quality and regulatory to ensure the highest level of product quality and compliance;
- Works with the NPD and Marketing groups to ensure that new products proceed through the stage gate process seamlessly to commercial launch;
- Manages the supplier base consistent with corporate guidelines and long term agreements;
- Drives the achievement of value creation savings consistent with the business and strategic plan. Ensures that project teams are well resourced and tracks performance against goals;
- Acts as a change agent within the business to drive best in class supply chain practices;
- Identifies opportunities for innovation utilizing internal and external sources such as clinicians, suppliers, other industries.
Profile of suitable candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree; plus 10-15 years related experience and/or training, with minimum 10 years in a supervisory / managerial role; or equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA or advanced degree is a plus;
- A minimum of ten years experience in various functional areas of the supply chain including: Operations Management, Procurement, Logistics, Warehousing and Distribution, SIOP, and Engineering;
- Must have experience in managing a global or distributed supply chain, including multiple facilities (preferably in different regions of the world), strategic suppliers;
- Has personally led a turnaround situation (start-up, shutdown, acquisition, significant business model change, etc);Experience in developing and executing complicated project plans that require the support of multiple functional areas. Must be able to use influencing skills appropriately;
- Has led/participated in major new product launches. Fully understands and has worked in an established stage gate process;
- Has worked in a business with an established SIOP process and can clearly articulate the different process steps and their interdependencies and the benefit to the business;
- Can demonstrate the ability to take a complex situation and drive to root cause. Then apply the appropriate resources to solve the issue and implement systems to prevent reoccurrence;
- Must have a thorough understanding of lean and six sigma concepts and a proven track record of application of these principles driving excellent business results;
- Thorough understanding of how operations affect the P&L and Balance Sheet. Must be able to make the connection of how actions positively impact the business metrics;
- Has been a sought after resource by multiple functions. Able to work outside their own area of expertise;
- SAP experience;
- Willing to travel op to 40-50%.
