The organisation

Our client is an international commodity trader group, specialized in the global core lines : Metals & Minerals (steel, aluminium, base metals), Agriculture (wheat, grains/corn, fertilizers) and Energy (crude oil, coal).

Next to the global core lines our client has diversified her activities within the resources sector by adding the services of Logistics and Finance. With a current presence in more than 25 countries with own offices and subsidiaries, it has developed a solid international network and platform of financial instruments with all major financial institutions.

The position

For its Metals and Minerals activities they are now looking for a (senior) experienced trader with a sound network to expand their base metals trading platform in the European markets. Positions are to be based in (preferably) Munich, but locations in Amsterdam or Berlin are optional. Key elements: entrepreneurial flair and commitment, interested in (possibly) building a new desk, being quickly appreciated and rewarded for the beneficial business the candidate(s) (will) bring.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced base metal trader to join a company which is expanding its presence in Europe.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Trading physical base metals in South-and Middle America, and/or Afica, and/or Asia
  • Realization of physical trades
  • Maintaining strong commercial relationships
  • Adopting appropriate trading and analysis strategies with scope to maximize trading revenue
  • Build and maintain key client relationships
  • Provide support to business development teams
  • Work closely with management and parallel business groups
  • Back up for other (base) metal traders
  • Manage daily exposure and P&L

Candidate profile

  • Absolutely required: candidates who will bring in sound network and immediate business
  • Strong network and contacts across European base metal markets
  • Have good contacts in the market with suppliers and customers
  • Demonstrate consistent returns
  • A minimum of 5years in a metal trading position
  • Zinc, Copper, Lead and Aluminum trading exposure
  • Sound understanding of both physical and derivates aspects in commodity market
  • Solid Risk Management Techniques
  • Strong preference given to applicants with experience in trading, risk management tools and knowledge and execution of commodity market structure and logistic operations
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be willing to be based in (preferably) Munich, Berlin or Amsterdam
