The Position

As part of the company’s expansion strategy of our Branch Office Amsterdam we are looking for talented and dynamic individuals for the role as General Manager - Continental Transportation.

In this role you will be responsible to grow this already very successful branch office. Your main focus will be to manage your team to develop the business for continental transportation (FTL, LTL, Intermodal, Rail) and to manage and develop a capacity strategy accordingly. You will report to the European Leadership.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Increase this already successful branch office;
  • Define the general strategy of the branch. Strategic Planning and Goal Setting.
  • The branch manager will lead the team of almost 20 people by example and as a “playing coach”. Create a financially engaged branch culture with an atmosphere of recognition and empowerment
  • Take an active/leadership role in the sales process by focusing with the account team on customer opportunities and market potential.
  • With your capacity team you constantly focus on optimizing the balance between volume and capacity.
  • Daily management of the Amsterdam Branch. Act as hands on leader who directly works together, inspires and motivates his department colleagues.
  • Regularly organize and preside structured meetings. Create and contribute to an effective and positive team spirit.
  • Develop and manage partnerships within the European company structure to enhance customer growth and overall company profitability.
  • Report on a regular basis to the management regarding the progress and realization of the operational, commercial and financial targets and the execution of the strategy.

Candidate Profile

  • The candidate is a driven and inspiring leader with excellent people management skills and proven operational and commercial/sales excellence within the continental transportation industry.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills.
  • Possesses extensive team management experience of which 8+ years within logistics, with a proven successful track record.
  • The candidate has a vision on developments in the related markets and is used to taking initiatives to create value with resources and people.
  • Is entrepreneurial, down to earth, result-oriented self-starter and commercial with an eye for clients expectations.
  • IT Literate.
  • Articulate and numerate with good presentation skills.
  • The candidate has strong strategic orientation, influence skills and business savvy
  • The ideal candidate must be relationship and network driven with the will to succeed. Able to negotiate effectively.
  • The candidate possesses excellent social and communicative skills.

Education: Master and/or University Degree or knowledge at this level.

Experience: Extensive management experience of which 8+ years commercial and/or operational experience in Logistics,       experience in people development and leadership.

Languages: Fluent in Dutch and English, both verbal and in writing. Additional European languages are advantageous.
