The position

The Challenge/Situation

After a very successful year of significantly improving the company on profitability and cash, Our client’s future strategy is directed towards high growth (>10%). To help facilitate this growth ambition the Management Board has created a high performance finance organization. The Director Corporate Control heads the group finance function consisting of a team of four. The role maintains close working relations with the Regional Finance Directors and acts as ‘primus inter pares’ in this team.

Key Activities / Accountabilities

  • Manage the process of preparation and review of the monthly management accounts and reports to the Management Board and Supervisory Board. Follow-up on deviations from plan. 
  • Preparation, consolidation, supervision and review of quarterly, half yearly and annual Group financial statements together with related adjustments, footnotes and supporting schedules to meet shareholder requirements within industry standards in accordance with IFRS standards. 
  • Ensure that the processes to achieve the reporting are smooth and accurate – from the consolidation process to communication with the Board of Directors. 
  • Development, oversight and maintenance of accounting and financial policies and procedures to ensure adequacy of internal control systems to deliver global compliance and a well controlled financial environment. Maintain up-to-date Group Accounting Policies and the Group Accounting Manaual reflecting the latest IFRS statements and interpretations. 
  • The position interacts with senior operations and sales management and other functions of the Group, especially other corporate finance functions such as treasury & tax . 
  • Coordinate the Group’s risk management program 
  • Liaise with Internal and external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process and predictable audit results. 
  • Drive significant improvements in efficiency of the reporting function/processes to deliver shorter and highly accurate reporting cycles with disciplined processes. 
  • Review of Balance sheets to ensure accuracy; reconciliation of all reporting entities’ 
  • Maintain a forward looking view on the development of the Group’s financial results with the aim to advise the Management Board on actions required and the consequences 
  • Oversee the preparation, filing and reporting formalities for all Group legal entities. 
  • Partner with CFO to develop useful and timely performance metrics to evaluate risks to
  • overall internal control environment before they become problematic 
  • Responsible for maintaining system charts of accounts, entity structures and reporting structure after implementation; 
  • Oversee and develop Head Office departments’ cost budgets and reports and statements. 
  • Participate and challenge in budget, quarterly forecast and review meetings with senior management; 
  • Assist CFO and/or CEO with special projects and ad-hoc requests, M&A and due diligence

Candidate profile

Background

  • Successful track record in a dynamic industry 
  • University degree supplemented with RA/RC/CPA/ACCA/CMA education 
  • Financial Acumen: 10-15 years experience in a financial control role (ideally a mix of Accounting, Operational and Controlling experience). 
  • Ideally, someone who has worked within 2-3 different companies after gaining Big 4 experience 
  • Fluency in English (other language skills useful). 
  • Must understand control in all aspects

The role also requires a good and detailed understanding of the key issues that drive the performance of the Group and is not just a corporate financial control role. It is important that the candidate is a natural respected individual who has enough conflict potential to draw a line in the sand but at the same time takes the ownership to drive the Our client business.
