Top of Minds for Anthony Veder

The organisation

Anthony Veder was established in 1937 as a shipowner and port agent, in Rotterdam — The Netherlands’ largest port city. In 1969, they began operating their first gas tanker and they have been expanding their knowledge, expertise, and trustworthy reputation in that field ever since. In the maritime industry they are pioneers, being the first with fast cooling Ethylene carriers fueled by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the first one in the small to midscale LNG segment.

The current business is in the segments of Petrochemical gases (Petchems), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Natural gas, being a cleaner alternative to oil, is increasingly becoming the fuel of choice.

Anthony Veder has developed long-term relationships with many clients all over the world by offering safe, reliable, and flexible services, with a wide range of high-quality gas carriers. Their ambition is to be the gas shipping company that leads in safety, service and sustainability. The company intends to achieve responsible growth, not only by helping their clients  to transport energy carriers more sustainably, but also by making their owned fleet consisting of 32 ships net zero by 2035 at the latest.

In order to sustainably grow their business, to expand their leadership position in the energy transition, and to develop exciting business models that could disrupt the energy industry, they’ve built a team consisting of four Business Development Managers. To increase the professionalism, strategic innovation, and entrepreneurial energy of that team, they are currently looking for a new candidate.

The position

Anthony Veder is a gas shipping company that operates at the heart of the transition towards a more sustainable world, providing high-quality and flexible services to the world’s leading chemical manufacturers. The new Business Development Manager will play a key role in expanding the company’s leading position in the transport of new, sustainable energy carriers.

Tasks & responsibilities

The new Business Development Manager (BD Manager) will be joining and strengthening the existing BD team, which is responsible for three things primarily. Firstly, and most importantly, business growth, by way of helping to develop new customers and upscale existing ones. Secondly, finding new product/market combinations, for instance by finding innovative ways to use existing ships for new purposes. Thirdly, and perhaps most excitingly, they will be tasked   with developing new propositions, to help solidify Anthony Veder’s leadership position in the transport of sustainable fossil fuels and biofuels.

The new BD Manager will bring a strong analytical skillset, with a keen understanding of the shipping industry. More importantly, they will be a strong networker, communicator, and relationship builder — having leadership experience in long, complex sales processes or tenders.

The new (BD) Manager will join and fortify the existing team of four, led by Head of Business Development Gerben Dijkstra. Each BD Manager has their own scope based mainly on region (America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East) and product. Because of the fact that the team collaborates extenstively, it is expected that each member is sufficiently knowledgeable about all of the different products.

The new BD Manager will have the entrepreneurial spirit to fortify the BD team, matching the already entrepreneurial culture within Anthony Veder. They will find themselves in an informal and open culture with colleagues from very diverse backgrounds, combining working from home with working at the beautiful office in Rotterdam’s shipping district.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a lot of experience in the complex world of shipping, with the possibility to make a real impact in the world. A chance for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, strong relationship building skills and a proven track record in complex sales and tenders in the energy shipping industry — to truly make their mark on the energy transition.

“Working on a ship that reduces emissions by 40% offers an environmental impact far beyond anything you can do in your personal life.” – Gerben Dijkstra, Head of Business Development
