Our client proves biobased chemistry can be local, circular and cost-competitive. The products are produced from organic waste and used in applications such as animal feed, lubricants, surfactants, paint, plasticizers, herbicides, food and flavours & fragrances. More than only a product, our client provides a solution to the industry in their effort to reduce greenhouse emissions and energy consumption.

The CCO will drive development of new applications and realize offtake of current and future production volumes. The CCO will have a position in the board of directors.

The position

Commercial role for an entrepreneurial, hands-on strategist with broad experience in the chemical industry looking for a challenging opportunity in an innovative, agile scale-up.

The CCO will develop and steer the commercial strategy and will play an active role in converting specific business opportunities into development and sales agreements. You will be responsible for all business development and sales efforts. You will work closely together with partners to expand our product application range and markets. Besides the pure CCO related responsibilities you will form the board together with the CEO and CFO and will thus be responsible for the general company strategy and execution as well.

Tasks & responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • develop and expand the commercial strategy for business development and sales,
  • set and execute sales- and pricing strategies,
  • deal structuring of development and offtake agreements,
  • lead product and application marketing efforts,
  • develop strategies to position the organization as the favored supplier to clients,
  • develop and maintain a network with new and existing partners and across the industry,
  • lead and grow the commercial team of business developers and future sales people,
  • as part of the board define and execute the broader strategy.

Candidate profile

The Commercial Director needs to have extensive experience and a proven track record in business development and sales within the chemical industry and a thorough understanding of applications and trends in the fields of feed, food, and chemicals & materials. The business environment consists of complex value chains with various drivers for change which need to be understood. Developing the market for a new product is challenging and enthusiasm, persistence and building relationships are important skill sets to have.

The envisioned candidate also needs to:

  • be a recognized expert in the (specialty) chemicals markets,
  • have the ability to find new opportunities to sell (derivatives),
  • have proven experience in negotiating development and sales agreements and in defining effective customer strategies,
  • have strong technical background and must be able understand complex technical applications,
  • have experience in developing new & innovative business in cooperation with partners in the targeted industries,
  • have proven experience in closing sales agreement for future production facilities,
  • have an entrepreneurial mindset to work in a small rapidly growing organization with demanding targets,
  • have a minimum of 15 years of experience in business development and sales,
  • be willing to travel for business purposes.
