Job Description
           
Reporting to the Vice President/General Manager, the Senior Director Marketing Material Science will be responsible for developing and executing the plan to grow the Material Science Business Unit significantly over the next 2-5 years. Working with the senior management team and the division’s marketing organization; the Senior Director will assess market opportunities and the competitive landscape to develop strategies and plans to grow revenue and profit. He/she will also have responsibility for coaching, mentoring and developing the business unit marketing team to raise the organization’s overall product strategy, management, and marketing capability.

This opportunity demands an accomplished senior leader accustomed to collaboration with senior executives and visibility at the board level.

Responsibilities:

  • Building and articulating a solid understanding of current, adjacent and targeted end markets including growth drivers, trends, technology inflection points and market participants.
  • Translating end markets to SEM, SDB and TEM opportunities
  • Identifying trends, technologies, market windows and inflection points
  • Analyzing market window timing, sizing, needs, competitive landscape, and investment required, to build a business case for participating in new markets
  • Defining product roadmaps that ensure product lines will sustain competitive advantage
  • Building a competitive intelligence system that tracks key competitors and industry players to identify their strengths, weaknesses, strategies, plans and performance
  • Analyzing customer requirements, industry trends, market segmentation, competitive landscape to prepare full business case for investment and product requirements for success (i.e MRD’s)
  • Working with the senior management to develop and maintain the business unit’s strategic plan
  • Drive consensus on and achieve support for product strategy and its implementation requirements
  • Ensure product cost, development schedules, and performance constraints are optimized in all development activities to best meet market needs and opportunities
  • Marshall products and product improvements through engineering, program management, operations, and support teams to ensure company’s goals are met
  • Develop and execute product marketing plans for new and existing products including product definition, pricing, positioning and promotion
  • Developing market collateral including white papers, datasheets, product profiles, and other sales enablers to sustain a successful sales process
  • Ensuring that all regional marketing and sales teams are equipped to win against the competition including designing and delivering training programs and selling tools
  • Engage with leading SEM, SDB and TEM customers to form, test, promote, and build market demand for SEM, SDB and TEM product offering
  • Provide content, expertise and source material to support marketing communications for collateral development, web site content, product demos, presentations, to effectively communicate the product value proposition to prospects, customers, field, partners, analysts and press
  • Lead and develop Marketing team members in your charge to achieve continuously improving results on the above

Candidate Profile        

  • PhD in chemistry or physics
  • 5+ years as the top marketing executive in a business unit or company
  • Track record within the Academia, Gov’t Laboratory and Industrial Research or closely related industry of creating and managing significant profitable growth
  • Demonstrated success in working across organizational boundaries and with customers to achieve objectives
  • Demonstrated leadership of an organization, both directly and with influence, in a dynamic environment
  • Experience developing and executing strategies to transition a company into emerging market opportunities such as Brazil, Russia, India and China
  • Proven ability to assess long-range market and technology trends to develop a roadmaps to capitalize on those trends
  • Proven ability to analyze markets, both quantitatively and qualitatively, interpreting large amounts of data to develop effective business cases.
  • Financially proficient and ability to travel worldwide as needed
  • Strong leadership skills characterized by the ability to inspire, communicate effectively, and drive the organization towards common goals
