The organisation

Our client is a multi-national manufacturer of raw materials for a wide range of industrial applications.

The position

The role requires good matrix management skills to work with the US, Operations and Supply Chain to ensure a good infrastructure and reliable service to the customer base in Europe. The incumbent will develop market analysis and work with the EU I&D Sales team in building a robust customer portfolio.

This position is responsible for the market, customer, product and pricing strategies of the Acetyls – Acetic Acid and VAM, and the E-Series Solvents in Europe. Europe is a major market for Acetyls imports and LYB imports over 200Kt annually from Laporte, TX. In addition, around 10Kt of E-series solvents are imported from Bayport. This role reports to the Director EO & Derivatives, Acetyls and Methanol located in Houston.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Operate effectively in a matrix organization to develop and execute marketing plans that maximize the value and fit the global strategies for these product lines. The understanding of the market will encompass - production, technology, end uses, trade lanes, competition among other aspects
  • Have a clear comprehension of the Acetyls operational infrastructure (LaPorte, Shipping, Oil tanking, Demurrage, Freight, RTC lease)
  • Work with Sales in developing a diversified customer portfolio and support sales in the development of contract strategies. The Acetyls portfolio consists of a balance of contract and spot business and serves a number of key multinational accounts
  • Support the development of the Budget and LRP. Understand and analyse the drivers that effect customer profitability. Execute Quarterly Retrospective price/Rebate checks
  • Understand the competitive environment and analyse Co-producer activity (trade, swaps, purchases)
  • Develop monthly price packages (price calls) that rationally suggest pricing strategies dependent on supply/demand, feedstock and other factors
  • Focal point for market calls with reporting companies such as ICIS/IHS
  • Key participation in CEFIC sector group for Acetyls and promoting product stewardship and advocacy for these products
  • Prepare weekly market highlights

Candidate profile

  • University degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in complementary functional areas such as marketing, sales, business analysis, operations management
  • Understanding of the Chemical Intermediates business
  • Project exposure or Project Management experience
  • Demonstrated ability in preparation of marketing plans from analysis through to implementation
  • Relevant industry know-how to manage business strategies successfully
  • Negotiations skills (preparation, strengths &weakness analyses, customer support)
  • Fluent in English, one or more other European languages helpful
  • Business Acumen: knows how businesses work; knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting his/her business and organization; knows the competition; is aware of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace
