The position

AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals (SC) provides a wide range of high quality and sustainable ingredients that are integral to numerous key industrial processes worldwide.

As a newly formed organization we are committed to the highest standards of efficient global sourcing. Within this context your mission in this role is to lead a global team of senior sourcing professionals for the functional spend categories and travel management, and to take an active role within the NPR leadership team.

In doing so you steer cross functional, multicultural teams and multiple projects in a global region, managing conflicting business interests and establishing common ground across organizational barriers. As such, this is a role for candidates with management experience who can engage and motivate others while supporting competence development.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as a results focused and entrepreneurial leader with excellent negotiation skills? Are you an experienced procurement or marketing professional with a broad understanding of strategic sourcing skills? Can you sell ideas, concepts and programs to suppliers and stakeholders up and down the relevant external and internal organizations? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?

If you offer all this and more, we invite you to apply for the position of Global Manager Functional Procurement.

Tasks & responsibilities

This is a new, high profile and influential role based at our offices in Amsterdam or Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Your core task is to manage and develop procurement globally for functional spend categories such as Consultancy Services, 3rd Party Services, Legal Services, Office Supplies, Travel, Lease Cars, Telecommunication, Software, ICT Hardware, and ICT Services across the business units (BUs) and Corporate Functions.

In doing so you define and set priorities based on your own analyses and on priorities set by the Functions (IM, HR, Legal) for the development of Sourcing Strategies, in alignment with company policies. This requires you to match the needs of corporate functions and BUs with opportunities in the supply markets, working closely with corporate staff directors, their departments, country management and stakeholders in the BUs.

At all times you aim to achieve the highest value for money/lowest total cost position for the short- and long-term, and you aim to secure a competitive and timely supply at optimum costs within the provided specifications.

Thus you proactively drive cost and margin improvement, process improvements and innovation. You also actively drive Cost Down programs beyond procurement savings to the stakeholders, e.g. demand reduction, change of specifications, value engineering and behavior changes.

Further, you source (global) procurement contracts and, in close collaboration with the supplier and our internal organization, ensure contract implementation.

You also participate proactively in relevant IM, Finance, Legal and other category teams, Vendor Relationship Management meetings and apply standard process and sourcing methods like SSM.

Finally, you lead and develop the global team in terms of applying different development and performance management tools.

As such, this position requires a deep understanding of the categories in terms of suppliers, market trends, internal requirements etc. It also demands that you maintain a continuous approach to learning and market intelligence in order to keep up with the latest developments.
