Lintberg for Moco Museum

The organisation

Founded in 2016 in Amsterdam, the Moco Museum is a museum with a wide range of inspiring modern and contemporary art. Featuring artists such as Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, JR, KAWS, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol and more, we offer visitors an unparalleled collection of art that uses irony and humor as a means to reflect on the modern society. The organization is characterized by an innovative, dynamic and enterprising character with a young and close-knit team. The concept has been so successful that Moco now has ambitious plans to scale internationally.

Moco (Modern Contemporary) Museum represents an innovative concept within the museum world, inviting young generations to get to know art and the creators behind it. Its message ‘In art we trust’ showcases a deep sense of purpose, whereby art is a vehicle that invites visitors to open up. The founders are Kim and Lionel Logchies: a married couple with extensive experience in the world of art galleries, and a good sense of what an audience wants to see.

All the pieces are showcased within a setting that further enhances the experience: lots of attention is paid to the location, the museum building and its look and feel. Without consciously trying to do so, Moco breathes inclusivity. During the lockdown, the Moco app guided fans and would-be visitors through a (partially virtual) outside exhibit to keep the audience engaged and entertained.

Pre-COVID, 90% of the museum’s visitors in Amsterdam were foreign tourists. During the pandemic the museum managed to attract more local visitors: the split is now 50/50. The museum is very successful, partly due to its distinctive approach and social involvement, which is clearly evident from the quickly conquered place in the top 10 of most visited museums in Amsterdam. A large part of the visitors belong to the 'millennial' target group.

The concept works for different types of audiences – and since the tourist market is an attractive one for Moco, it makes sense to address that market in other locations as well. Barcelona was selected as the first location for international expansion. The focus for future expansion will be on London and Paris. By 2025, Moco wants to be a household name among European locals and travelers alike.

The position

In this role you are responsible for determining and executing the online marketing strategy of the museum. In collaboration with the Marketing & Sales Manager, you ensure Moco has a clear branding strategy towards visitors, with your focus on online in a broad sense.

A significant growth in the number of visitors is expected in the coming years: Moco Amsterdam wants to welcome 650,000 visitors. The ambitious and enterprising Online & Social Marketing Manager we are looking for, will play an important role in realizing the (international) ambitions.

You think and work from a commercial and entrepreneurial mindset and are responsible for an annual budget of € 500,000, to be divided over the various online channels. Although the current distribution of visitors is approximately 65/35 in terms of origin (international/Dutch), the budget distribution is approximately 50/50. One of the spearheads in this role is therefore growth within the Dutch market, for which there clearly is room.

You maintain and improve the various paid campaigns and ensure growth of our positioning within content marketing (text as well as video). You work together with our (online) media and design partners, for example to optimize the customer journey of the new website based on the collected data and our extensive dashboard. Social media are managed in-house under your leadership. These form an important part of the online strategy and we are ambitious in this regard: for example, we want to go from 225,000 (now) to 1 million followers on Instagram (2022).

In this role you report directly to the Manager Marketing and Sales.

Candidate profile

We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience (5+ years) in a senior role in building and/or expanding a brand online; ideally in the event/leisure industry. Other sectors are also thinkable, provided that they are B2C-oriented.

You have had a proven track record in marketing through online channels in previous roles. You know better than anyone how to use the right channels to achieve your results. SEO, paid ads, social media, video, content: you know where our target group (both in NL and abroad) is and with which message we can best reach them. You are also analytically skilled, you are familiar with various data tools and you know how to translate figures and data into concrete strategies and results.

Enterprising, commercial and creative: three essential qualities that we look for in you and that will make you successful in the position as Online Marketing Manager. The lines in the organization are short, so we are looking for a real team player: you work closely with the entire marketing team which is growing as well!

The offer

As an Online Marketing Manager you will work in an enthusiastic and ambitious team in a beautiful location in a monumental building on the Museumplein in Amsterdam. You will get a lot of room to develop new online initiatives.
