The organisation

Our client is a diversified international family entertainment and media company built around a core business of Branded Family Edutainment Centers (BFECs) with main offices in LA and Amsterdam. BFECs are unique entertainment destinations combining the most popular international brands (National Geographic, Mattel & DreamWorks amongst others) with cutting edge media-based technology and attractions.

The BFECs deliver unique, high quality, deeply immersive and interactive entertainment experiences with an educational underlay. They are targeted at leading retail centers and high traffic locations around the world, looking to differentiate.

The position

The role of Human Resources Director will sit in the Amsterdam office and will give support to all the business units which have teams dispersed globally. The role also requires regular contact with our customer base globally, as we expand our business worldwide and any of our BFEC’s will include staff and staffing tools.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced HR Manager with a background in a fast-growing environment with global exposure.

You report directly to the CFO and will work closely together with the CEO and the different Executives of the organization.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • To strategically oversee the growth from 50 to 150 employees over the next 2 years. Employees are located globally so you would need to have experience of working on international staffing programs.
  • To advise and guide the Management Team and people managers (internally) and our customer base (externally) about global HR topics such as recruitment, performance management, contracts, legal changes, compliance, benefits, employee satisfaction, HR analytics and many more special cases where HR help is needed (like HR policies and procedures in new BFECs).
  • To manage the delivery of an excellent quality HR service across all areas, developing and maintaining good working relationships and offering accurate advice as required.
  • To ensure the achievement of weekly/monthly/annual budgeting and reporting requirements are met, e.g. reporting of accurate salary costs and end of year reporting data preparation and delivery of weekly/monthly reports including Management Briefs.
  • To design, develop & deliver appropriate communication material to ensure regular updates are available to the business.
  • Preparation, measurement & delivery of departmental business plans and KPI's with new initiatives carrying out approved actions and regular reporting on an agreed basis to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Preparation and review of annual and revised quarterly HR budgets and reporting of expenditure against those budgets.
  • To lead and mentor the global HR strategy and team.

Candidate profile

This is who you are: you love HR and people love working with you because you are a genuine People Manager who is down to earth and full of energy. You have a natural talent for creating a culture where people feel at home and recognized. It is your ambition to become the employer of “first choice”. You are either native Dutch or very familiar with Dutch HR legislation and institutions. Besides this you are comfortable working with expats and experienced in working for remote offices.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience as a Human Resources Manager/Business Partner with an internationally operating company and will be able to demonstrate the ability to implement new systems into an existing organization. You must have strong English language skills and will ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent.

Furthermore, you tick all below boxes:

  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years HR experience in an international, fast growing environment
  • Having had plenty of C-level exposure
  • Previous geographic scope includes, as a minimum Europe, China (focus!), US and preferably also Middle East, Russia, Mexico
  • Recruiting Champion and thorough knowledge of Talent Management
  • Strong previous Compensation & Benefits exposure
  • Willing to travel
  • Hands-on and willing to be (very) productive
  • Dutch is a must / English at a near-native level
  • Happy to deal with satellite offices in (very) different time-zones
