The organisation

My client is a pan-European stock broker servicing a lot individual retail clients across Europe with their online Brokerage platform. They are able to provide all investors with transparent institutional rates thanks to its innovative technology and cost-focused approach. They offer fees which are much lower than their competitors, while providing access to global stock exchanges, real time prices and super fast execution through their website and app. By reducing the barriers to entry and making it affordable to trade, they make global investing possible for everyone.

Over the last two year a formal Board of Directors was appointed and a Supervisory Board was installed. The last step in this proces is to attract an excellent CCO to complete the BoD. For this reason I would like to get in touch with an experienced, professional Chief Commercial Officer to (co-)lead their Marketing, Product Development, Client Onboarding and Customer Services activities.

The position

Above all the CCO is responsible for activities relating to our clients such as marketing, product development, client onboarding and customer service. The CCO combines technical knowledge of the relevant field with strong marketing and business development skills.

Together with the other members of the BoD, within the objectives of the Company, the CCO coformulates, implements and executes the strategy.

The CCO takes ownership of the client and the client interface with the product or service offering, making sure that all functions are aligned to serve the client’s needs and at the same time also meet its strategic commercial objectives. This means that they are loosely linked to the strategic management function, in drafting, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable them to achieve its long-term objectives.

Management of the Company, and therewith related policies, with as special point of attention the focus areas mentioned in this Job description. The CCO ensures a clear, correct and coherent communication strategy on and from the Company towards the public and creates an environment and culture that promotes great performance and positive morale.

Tasks & responsibilities

Within the composition of the BoD, the CCO is responsible for the focusing on the clients (consisting of the client and product strategy) and the further development of the Company. The CCO will be responsible for the following Departments:

  • Marketing
  • Product Development/Product Management
  • Service Desks (including Mid-office)
  • Professional Services

Candidate profile

  • Experience with board memberships in medium sized organizations. These skills have been developed in a relevant working environment within the past five years, of which at least one year consecutively.
  • Has sufficient knowledge and experience in technology driven organization in highly regulated environment
  • Has the ability to deal with different, sometimes conflicting interests. Has explicit experience with this and can look back on successful interventions.
  • Can commit to the mission and vision of the Company, namely the mission: ‘making financial planning and finance affordable for everyone around the globe’ and the vision: ‘by combining technology and financial know-how, we create cutting-edge and costefficient financial services for everyone.
  • The CCO is expected to have leadership skills, demonstrating the importance of good decision making, always make sure the client’s interests are being served and that current and new services and products will be compliant will relevant rules and regulations.
  • Extended experience in Board of Director roles and cooperating with the Compliance department.
  • Has experience working in a regulated environment; maintaining codes and internal procedures and regulations, concerning corporate governance and compliance, internal and external audits.
  • Has experience with Governance frameworks.
  • Has superior organizational awareness.
  • Is an expert in the financial service sector, including the brokerage sector and trading platforms, therefore excellent experience with our products.
  • Has proven experience with innovation and development of relevant products.
  • Understands the business and can relate to the products.
