The organisation

Bemis Manufacturing Company is a family-owned business that traces its roots back to 1901. Headquartered in, Wisconsin, U.S.A., the Company is amongst the biggest injection molding manufacturing companies in the “non-automotive” industry. The Company markets products under its own brands and provides expertise to others, producing private-label products and component parts for a wide variety of industries. Bemis serves consumer, commercial, medical and industrial markets worldwide and has over 2,000 employees located in nine countries around the world.The company is focused on product innovation and on sustainability in their products and manufacturing processes. 

In Europe Bemis has a presence in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Croatia and the Netherlands with own R&D and manufacturing facilities for the European market. Bemis in Europe is active in Bathroom products and in custom made products and products made for the medical industry. The bathroom products are sold via a dual channel strategy via the large, sometimes, multi-country active DIY retailers and the professional channels. The large OEM bathroom manufacturers also belong to the company’s clients. Internet sales are becoming a significant new reality for bathroom products as well and identifying strategies that will work in omnichannel selling in the future is critical. 

The position

The Marketing Manager for Bemis Europe, Middle East and Africa should be able to:

  • Quickly understand the dynamics of each EMEA market for bathroom products.
  • Coordinate the formulation and improvement of market development plans. Specifically, identify products, prices, channels of distribution, and messaging.
  • Work interdependently with the rest of the Bemis EMEA team to successfully execute those marketing plans to grow sales and earn an acceptable operating profit.
  • Help Bemis become the leading provider in the region’s key markets and segments (residential and commercial) including, but not limited to, Germany, the UK, France, Croatia and Italy, the emerging growth markets of the region, and smaller markets where there are solid profit opportunities.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Work interdependently with:
    • EMEA Product Development, Procurement, Brand Management and Finance.
    • Local Sales, Marketing Managers and Manufacturing.
  • Work closely with local marketing and sales to clearly define and continuously improve the EMEA product maps.
  • Define and prioritize the required products that need to be improved/developed.
  • Execute/ facilitate the projects and process of product development, quality assurance and successful market introduction.
  • Through functional cooperation, prepare ‘scripts’ and ‘value proposition statements’ that can be used with retail buyers and wholesale distributors to earn significant business. 
  • Closely work with Brand Management to secure timely development of marketing materials, websites, social media tools and trade-show activities in support of the market development plans for Bemis EMEA.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key peers that foster analytical thinking, a receptivity to new ideas and a bias toward meaningful action. 
  • Create and manage the annual Marketing spending plan and track actual spend. 
  • Communicate frequently with the Bemis EMEA Managing Director to find ways to remove obstacles that prevent achievement of the business goals, plans or recommendations to move through these obstacles. 

Candidate profile

Education & certification/license credentials:

  • Four year college degree (Marketing, Business, Engineering, or Finance/Accounting preferred or equivalent experience). An MBA would be a plus.

Functional competencies/skills, knowledge & experience:

The successful candidate will have experience and a proven successful track record in Marketing. Specific qualifications include the following:

  • Solid international business person with strong omnichannel marketing skills.
  • Experience with durable consumer products that with a 3 to 10-year lifespan and sell for between €5 and €500.
  • Experience in introducing a ‘one brand strategy’.
  • A brand builder, experience in marketing of brands.
  • Wholesale, retail, and OEM channel experience.
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that support corporate goals and strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • SKU management and price management experience.
  • Excellent deductive reasoning skills.
  • English is a must; like French or German, at least one of these two, more would be a plus.
