The organisation

Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company (KADCO) is an independent company under the Ministry of Transport that holds concession to manage and develop Kilimanjaro Airport and its estate.

The position

KADCO is seeking an exceptional candidate for this senior executive position. You will have extensive experience in the aviation industry and bring with you the ability to lead new high value projects as well as ongoing operations.

The Managing Director (MD) leads an executive team consisting of the Director of Operations and Technical Services and the Director of Finance, along with other direct reports. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the MD has overall responsibility for KADCO, leading the organisation and directing and managing all activities relating to the planning and operations of Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the Board of Directors and actively participating in discussions relating to the strategic direction and future status of the company (private, governmental or para-statal) following the acquisition of shares by the Government of Tanzania in 2009/2010. 
• Overall management of a 25 million Euro rehabilitation project co-financed by the Dutch government, in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the relevant Tanzanian authorities and ministries. The project entails the upgrading and extension of primary airport facilities, environmental impact studies and training programmes.
• Developing and implementing the airport’s business plan, engaging the management team in the definition of, and commitment to, the long-term strategic direction of the company.
• Leading organisational change and development, ensuring that KADCO embraces a preventive maintenance culture. In addition, contributing to major marketing and business development activities.
• Managing KADCO’s 100 square km estate, ensuring that its commercial potential is maximised through the design and implementation of a visionary plan in line with the KADCO master plan.

?Experience and Requirements

• 7-10 years experience at executive management level in comparable companies 
• Extensive knowledge of the aviation industry is essential
• Considerable experience in managing large infrastructure projects, preferably on airports, including finance and procurement
• The ability to communicate and negotiate with institutions such as Tanzanian and foreign governments, financing institutions, consultants and contractors 
• University degree in airport transport engineering or a related, non technical field 
• The creativity to visualise and develop a strategy
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a flair for relationship building
• Fluent in English and knowledge of Swahili is an asset
