Your challenge: lead a group of multiple units of engineers and improve and review their level of performance. You will establish conceptual approaches to the solution of problems and allocation of resources.
Job Mission
The Director Software provides technical leadership and management review and control over multiple units of engineers.
He/she confers with higher level engineering management to establish conceptual approaches to the solution of problems, allocation of resources, projected cost of effort and time frames for project/program completion.
The position, while serving as a technical resource, is focused on managerial concerns of project cost and completion dates, resource allocation, resolution of issues and integration of various component work segments.
Job Description
Manage R&D Strategy
- Conceive, plan and implement specific operational engineering projects in support of the overall engineering program;
- Initiate and maintain contacts with key engineers and officials inside the company in the interest of joint problem solving, coordination and keeping up with technological developments;
- Provide review and verification of assumptions used in designs, validation of methodology and concepts, and infusion of judgment and experience into creative design work;
- Develop schedules and ensure timely completion of projects;
- Contribute to the definition and execution of the policy of R&D;
- Contribute to the formulation of the Product Generation, Processes, Program plans and the effectiveness and consistency of Staff Research and Development decisions, in order that high quality and well balanced decisions can be taken regarding e.g. strategic objectives, planning and operational priorities;
- Contribute to an optimal infrastructure of Development/Engineering, equipment, systems and quality aspects. Monitor the market developments on these subjects.
Resource and expertise planning development plan (1-5 years)
Contribute to the mid term sector planning, including planning of (critical) human resources, budgets, investments and the technology base, design means and methods, in order to anticipate on the needs of programs and projects resulting from the strategic product road map and the Technology Road Map.
Department Plan (1 year)
Define and maintain within the framework of the development plan, the rolling planning of the discipline, including the planning of the department organization, the (critical) human resources, budgets, investments, the area of the multi disciplinary technological competence/technology base, design means and methods.
Technology Base/Competency Development
- Develop and maintain a state of the art technology base in the area of discipline, including the development and assurance of know-how, design rules, methods and tools, in order to contribute in all phases of the product life cycle to the competitive position and technical excellence of products, now and in the future;
- Coordinate the definition and execution of activities to develop and maintain technological competencies;
- Manage competence teams. Assure continuity in knowledge and information for all life cycle phases of products, in order to support sustaining engineering and even end of life products.
Product Definition
- Contribute from the own discipline to the definition and specification of products in order to achieve an optimal balance between market requirements and technical realistic specifications within the constraints of time and budget.
Quality
- Ensure the formulating and monitoring of quality standards and the production and service philosophy regarding the usage of design rules, methods and tools in the Product Generation Process and monitor the formal quality of development documents and TPD in order to contribute to the overall level of quality of products and services;
- Ensure effective process control and communication in relation to co-developers.
Education & Experience
- Master / PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or electronics;
- 10-15y experience in specific domain with indebt knowledge;
- Proven experience of successfully leading large (100+) development teams;
- A team manager who is also at ease in the content side, and who has a sense for the business drivers that are specific to the company;
- Able to work in a complex and fast changing environment, in a multi-disciplinary environment;
- Successfully launched and managed a new product/program;
- International exposure, ability to work in a multi-site, multi-cultural environment;
- Excellent command of English, Dutch not required.
