AkzoNobel

The organisation

AkzoNobel creates everyday essentials to make people’s lives more liveable and inspiring. We are a leading global producer of paints, coatings and specialty chemicals, supplying essential ingredients, essential protection and essential color to industries and consumers worldwide.

The position

Our Global Business Services (GBS) Organization is rapidly expanding into new business areas and geographies. In doing so GBS needs to act as a ‘trusted advisor’ as it introduces and implements new ways of working. And in order for GBS to be successful long term, it must become an integral part of the management teams of several key partner functions. Once GBS has established strong relationships and proved its value, it will seek new opportunities to improve its service and generate new savings for the company.

Within this context, your mission in this role is to act as a senior transformation leader and visionary thinker who can design appealing visions of the future. In doing so you act as a determined problem-solver, able to identify and structure issues, run accurate (also statistical) analyses and synthesize recommendations.

Is this a challenge that matches your skills and ambitions? Have you performed successful functional transformations in which you re-tooled and re-shaped entire functions? Are you risk-friendly, able to take a decision quickly without mastering all the parameters? Do you command the credibility and respect necessary to influence senior leaders as you steer them towards new processes? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?

If you offer all this and more we invite you to apply for the role of GBS Senior Business Partner.

Tasks and responsibilities

Working from the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, you are an active member of several functional and business leadership teams, acting as a trusted partner to escalate service issues, improve service outcomes, and helping executives to optimize GBS resources in order to meet their business goals.

This requires you to coordinate the tracking of major service issues and complaints, working with regional GBS site directors and regional CI leaders to quickly diagnose root causes of problems and implement solutions. You also handle escalations of critical service issues, and you will sometimes perform global contract reviews and holding vendors accountable to SLAs and KPIs.

Further, you act as a conduit to functions and businesses with regard to the rollout of new GBS programs and capabilities. You also work with functions and businesses to evaluate new opportunities to leverage GBS service offerings. This requires you to perform financial reviews of current processes, and look for areas in which labor arbitrage and new service capabilities could positively impact the financial performance.

In addition you act as an ‘internal consultant’, providing services that customers could not normally access without going to an outside party. Thus you perform operational and financial reviews of processes, then help the customer to organize CI initiatives, technology implementations, and other process improvements to drive value.

During work transitions you are responsible for helping with the change management efforts and you are accountable for customer satisfaction and business stability until the process is fully handed off to the delivery organization.

As such this is a role for candidates with a strong desire to improve existing status through change leadership and the development of process excellence skills. It also demands experience of running large teams, sound judgement, and the ability to manage through influence and escalations.

Please note that you will travel for up to 50% of your time, usually within Europe.
