The position

The CFO is responsible for leading GÉANT in all aspects of finance, tax, risk and compliance management. And is also responsible for all procurements done by the organisation on its own behalf or on behalf of its members.

The CFO directly reports to the CEO. As a member of the executive team the CFO helps to set and implement an overall strategic direction for the organisation.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Finance and Procurement teams, building a diverse and collaborative work environment.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the overall organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy.
  • Provide valuable insights and recommendations to support decision-making by the executive team.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders (e.g. European Commission).
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the financial health of the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Representing the company towards governance bodies and committees.

Candidate profile

We are looking for a value-adding CFO with excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills to provide strategy and direction.

The successful applicant:

  • Has completed a university degree in Finance, Controlling and/or Accounting.
  • Has relevant experience in leading Finance and Procurement functions, ideally in a not for profit / international and/or research and education environment. Additional experience of working in a technical, telecom or IT related organisation, would be considered a plus.
  • Is experienced in guiding and managing an international team(s).
  • Has knowledge of Dutch and international accounting rules.
  • Has knowledge of EC financial and procurement rules are preferred.
  • Speak, reads and writes both Dutch and English on a professional level.
  • To be considered for this position candidates must live in commuting distance of the office Amsterdam (or willing to move).

Géant has adopted a flexible-hybrid model. Weekly visits to the office are required for most employees to support our values and collaborative culture. For the CFO we anticipate that you will be required in the office at least 4 days per week. The CFO role is based out of our Amsterdam head office. However, since a large part of the finance team is based in Cambridge we expect that the CFO will be frequently in the Cambridge branch office as well. This requirement may change, as the needs of the business change.
